You sighed in relief as you flopped down on the bed. What a day....You groaned, thinking over the last 24 plus hours. All you wanted to do was sleeeeeeep. But you knew better. A friend of yours who'd traveled to Europe before had suggested that the best thing to do was go to sleep at their time instead of your body time. It would help with the jetlag.

Well, since I've got nothing better to do....You slowly pulled yourself up and opened up your suitcase. After removing the top layer of clothing, you found what you were looking for. Thank goodness it wasn't damaged in the flight. You thought to yourself as you inspected your laptop. Your friend had said something about the European airlines doing their best to beat up the luggage, and she wasn't kidding. Your suitcase had a new tear in the plastic, and there was a mysterious stain on the side, possibly oil? But it was okay. You flipped open the laptop and connected to the WiFi in the hostel. Now...You opened up your email and started typing your letter to your boss.

Once you'd finished explaining the problem, and requesting the funds needed to pay back the man who'd helped you out, you sent off the email. I just hope they get it in time, seeing as I'm now six hours ahead of them. You grimanced at the thought.

Since you had a little bit of time before you needed to do anything you decided to go out and explore a little bit.  Your friend had suggested going out and finding a Doener Laden  stand and getting one. She'd described it as a wonderfully delicious combination of thinly sliced meat, soft, warm bread, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and delicious sauces.

By some miracle, you were able to find a stand and managed to order a Doener. Surprisingly enough, it was quite big, and it took you the remainder of your trip around the city to finish it all. But it was so worth it.....

Finally, you made it back to the hotel and got back to your room where you flopped down onto the bed and slipped into your pajamas. It was still early to be going to sleep, only 5 p.m., but you didn't care.

~Time Skip to Morning~

Surprisingly enough, you were up much earlier than was typical, 6:00 am. Must have something to do with the time change, You thought as you struggled out of the bed and dragged yourself over to where your suitcase lay. It was still a mess from yesterday, but you managed to pull out a respectable top and a pair of pants. It was relaxed wear, quite honestly, but it was comfortable and fashionable enough, so you really didn't care.

You wandered into the bathroom and proceeded to brush your teeth, a task which always let your mind wander. I wonder what Ludwig will think when he sees-You startled at the thought, and stared at your foamy mouthed self in the bathroom mirror. The fudge am I thinking? You scowled into the mirror and spat into the sink.

"It shouldn't matter what he thinks about my outfit." You grumbled to yourself as you wiped your mouth on the back of your hand. After all, it's not like I'm going to be seeing him again after today. And for some reason that thought made you feel a little bit sad.

You finished your morning grooming, banishing all thoughts of Ludwig from your mind, and picked up your cell phone, checking on the time. 12:30 am? That can't be-oh wait....You smirked. Duh. German time. So...add 6 hours and that means it's-what, only 6:30? A little early to be calling someone in the morning. Your mother had always told you not to call people before seven in the morning or after nine at night. I'll wait half an hour and then call. You smiled, pleased with your reasoning. In the mean time, you could go and get the money out of the Deutsche Bank ATM to pay Ludwig back with. You'd seen one close by when Ludwig had been leading you to the hotel yesterday. Now, let's just hope that the boss got my email and sent the funds..You thought as you headed downstairs.

It was overcast and smelled like rain as you headed outside. More likely than not, it would drizzle later. You made your way down to the ATM and found that, thankfully, your boss had gotten your email and transferred the funds. You pulled out the required cash, plus a little extra for emergencies, and then pulled out your cellphone, checking the time again.

I guess I can call him now...You thought as you pulled the slip of paper Ludwig had given you out of your pocket, where you'd stashed it as you left the hotel. You punched in the number and waited. The phone rang for a few moments before someone picked up.

"Ludwig. Wer ist es?"  Hello, who is it? You sighed in relief as Ludwig's voice came on the line.

"Guten Morgen, Ludwig.... Diese ist...um...Fraeulein (Last Name). Die Amerikanerin Madchen von gestern?" You stammered. Hopefully, you'd just said something along the lines of, Good morning, Ludwig? This is Ms. (Last Name). The american girl from yesterday?

The line was silent for a moment, and you held your breath, waiting for the reply.

"Ah. Fraeulein (Last Name). How are you?" You sighed again, he'd remembered you.

"I'm good. Thanks. I was calling to let you know that I have the money, and that I was wondering what time you wanted to meet at the bakery. What time works best for you?" You asked.

"Hm...wie spaet ist es...ah, halb acht. How does 7:45 sound to you? Can you make it there in time?" He asked. You checked the address and saw that it was right down the street.

"Yeah. That works just fine. I'll see you in a few then?" You asked.

"Ja. Bis spaeter?"

"Bis spaeter."

You hung up and strolled down to the bakery down the street. You stepped in and holy cow it smelled amazing in there. You grinned like a fool as you studied all of the wonderful baked goods lining the counter.

"Guten Morgen." The woman behind the counter greeted you cheerfully.

"Ah! Guten Morgen." You smiled happily at the woman as you looked up from the wonders hidden behind the glass counter. There were sandwiches and slices of cakes and  Broetchen (bread rolls) and pasteries and all sorts of tasty confections lined up neatly behind the glass. You almost couldn't wait for Ludwig to arrive so you could get something.

It wasn't long before you heard the door open and saw Ludwig's tall figure step in.

"Ah. Fraeulein (Last Name). There you are." He said as he walked over to where you were. "Good morning."

"Guten Morgen!" You replied cheerfully.

"Have you already eaten?" He asked, studying the display of foods.

You shook your head. "No. I was waiting for you to arrive. I figured you might have some good suggestions as to what to get." You smiled tentatively. "So...what do you think I should try?"

Ludwig took another moment to look at the selection they had, and then turned back to you.

"I find the Amerikaner very good." He said. You started at his face, searching for any hint that he was just joking around. Amerikaner directly translates into American, and you weren't sure if he was 'binding a bear to your back' or not.

"Germany's big on 'Sweeny Todd', huh?" You asked, slightly confused. Ludwig looked at you for a moment, brows knitted together.

"Was-Nein. It's a type of pastry. It has nothing to do with eating Americans." He said. "Trust me."

You decided to just go with it. "Ich verstehe nur Bahnhof." You muttered under your breath, using a phrase your German teacher had taught you in High school. I understand only train station. Or rather, in American terms, 'it's Greek to me'.

Ludwig looked at you, surprised, and then chuckled. "Nicht schlect." He commented. Not bad. "Maybe there's hope for your German after all." He said with a slight smirk.

You snorted. "Not unless I end up transferring jobs and moving here."

"Well, if you did, it wouldn't be too bad, would it?" He asked, stepping up to the counter to place his order.

You shrugged. "I guess not. You do have really good food here, and some pretty wicked chocolate from what I've heard." You commented as Ludwig bought 2 pasteries.

"Hier, die ist fuer dich." This is for you. He handed you one of the two pastries. It was roughtly 5 1/2- 6 inches long and about an inch thick at it's thickest point. It had a rounded bottom with a top flat that was iced with an white glazed topping.

"Ludwig! I-You-ugh...You didn't have to do this." You grumbled as you both walked outside the shop. "You're too nice."

"Ich weiss." I know.

"Which reminds me, could you hold this for a sec?" You asked, handing Ludwig back the Amerikaner so that you could dig around in your wallet.

"Here's what I owe you for last night. Thanks again for that." You said sheepishly as you traded the money for your Amerikaner.

"Danke Schoen." He replied as he placed the money in his wallet. You sighed, sad. Now there's really no reason for me to see him again...You thought to yourself.

"I guess this is goodbye then?" You said, looking down at your feet glumly. The thought was slightly depressing.

"It doesn't have to be." Ludwig said. "You are more than welcome to call my Handy if you have any more trouble, okay?"

"Okay." You replied. "Thanks again for all the help...."

"You're very welcome. Auf Wiedersehen Fraeulein (Last Name)."

"Auf Wiedersehen Ludwig." You said softly as he walked down the street, off into the distance.
